BACKGROUND: Based on the Kitchener Soccer transition report CSD-06-044 of March 27th 2006, Council approved the transfer of responsibility of the soccer program to the Kitchener Soccer Club. Since then, the Club has operated the 2006 soccer programs with substantial success. This report is to provide Council with an update on the progress of their club and programs. REPORT: An executive board is in place for the organization which is responsible for the soccer program and its associated budget. City staff continues to monitor the organization and are available to board members for consultation and support. The Club is currently completing financial statements with City staff and these are attached. The Board will continue to report quarterly to Council outlining the progress of the soccer program. Fourteen City fields are used seasonally by the soccer club programs. The executive board is currently focussing on completion of their strategic plan, bylaw agreements and Club operational policies. Their goal is to complete these by year end. A training package for coaches was implemented this year with great success. Volunteer and staff management procedures are being passed and researched. Most volunteer procedures are directed by OSA while staff procedures are being examined, starting with City of Kitchener best practices. The popularity and success of the program is evident in the current wait list of 234 children for the indoor season. A popular new age division of under 15/16 for both boys and girls has been launched with great success. The current soccer executive and city staff are committed to the continuance of the delivery of this top quality soccer program. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Financial statements are reviewed by City staff on a monthly basis. As at September 18, 2006, the Club is showing a total surplus of $171 ,390.
