Subject: VICTORIA STREET SOUTH IMPROVEMENTS, LAWRENCE
AVENUE TO WALNUT STREET

REPORT:
The Regional Municipality of Waterloo is proceeding with the Victoria Street South
Improvements between Lawrence Avenue and Walnut Street. Construction is tentatively
planned for April 3, 2006 with completion expected before November, 2006. On behalf of the
City of Kitchener, the Region will be completing the following work on City infrastructure;
Replacement of sanitary mainline sewers
Replacement of sanitary services to property line
Replacement of water main
Replacement of water services to property line
Sidewalk replacement
Improvements to the Walnut /Victoria Street intersection
Tenders were called in February, 2006 and the contract was awarded to Sierra Construction, by
Region of Waterloo Council at its March 22, 2006 meeting. The contract was awarded at the
corrected tendered price of $4,836,467.41 including GST.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The project will include the replacement of City of Kitchener sanitary sewers /services and
watermain /services which will be at the City's cost. The City will also contribute a portion of the
cost of storm sewers based on contributing drainage area. Additional work was requested at
the Walnut and Victoria Street intersection by the City and is included in this contract. Funds
have been allocated in the 2005 Capital Budget for the City's share of this work.

Expected Costs
City of Kitchener share $1,893,324.90
Balance $ 676.00
An analysis of the funding for this project shows that there is sufficient funding is in place for the
City's share of the project.
