RENTING DOON VALLEY GC LAND TO BE FARMED
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City of Kitchener Manager of Golf Courses be authorized to enter into an
agreement, subject to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor, to rent Doon Valley Golf
Course undeveloped lands Parts 1 & 2, Plan 67R-1686 to Brian Domm Farms ltd. for the
growing of a soybean crop from May 2006, until October 2006.
BACKGROUND:
These lands; and in particular the field mentioned above at Doon Valley Golf Course, has been
traditionally rented and used for farming. We are recommending the same thing be done for
one more summer until a decision regarding the Doon Valley Golf Expansion options are made.
REPORT:
Renting this field for farming is a good practice, as it will bring the City of Kitchener a modest
revenue, as well as maintaining the City's responsibility for weed control, to adjacent
neighbouring properties that would otherwise be an expense. The City of Kitchener Legal
Department has reviewed and adjusted the previous agreement, which is now ready to be
signed upon Council approval.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The City of Kitchener will receive a rental fee of $1 ,673.75 plus GST for 2006 which is a 30/0
increase over 2005.
CONCLUSION:
It is both good practice and good business for the City of Kitchener to enter into an agreement
to rent the above mentioned farm field on the Doon Valley Golf Course expansion lands with
Brian Domm Farms Ltd., 1359 Dickie Settlement Rd, RR#3 Cambridge, Ontario; for the year
2006 in accordance with the terms described in the agreement.
