2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES AND REVIEW OF AGENDA
A motion was made by Jamie, seconded by Jennifer, to approve the minutes of the September
meeting. All were in favour; carried.
3. BUSINESS ARISING
3.1 Tax Credit for Physical Activity -Peter
Peter advised that he had sent an a-mail to the government steering committee with an
endorsement to include arts programs in the tax credit plan.
ACTION:
Peter will talk with Martin de Groot regarding the next step and will report to ACAC in
November.
4. NEW BUSINESS
4.1 City Committees Open House
A City Advisory Committee Open House will be held on Thursday October 19 from 6-8 p.m.
Denis and Linda will be there to answer questions.
4.2 Artscape's Creative Hub Development Workshop
This workshop will be held on October 20 from 9:30a.m to 1:00 p.m. in the Conestoga Room at
Kitchener City Hall to discuss research done to date. Through an extensive invitation list, it is
hoped that about 60 people can be accommodated at the workshop.
5. REPORTS
5.1 Public Art Working Group -Sheila
• Cory Bluhm made a presentation to PAWG re Downtown Urban Design guidelines.
• John commented on the importance of urban design standards
• PAWG has two new members but is still recruiting.
• Phil Irish, this year's Artist-in-Residence, finishes at the end of October. November 3 is the
deadline for the AIR 2007 submissions.
• ASAP will continue for 2007 and will be reviewed at the end of the year.
• Some discussion took place at ACAC regarding the "% for Art" project. John noted that he
is pressing to have $300,000 allocated to public art in the new School of Pharmacy, but as
this is not a municipal project but a university project it cannot be mandated that they
include public art. It was also noted that the clause in the Public Art Policy encouraging
"new commercial and institutional construction or renovation with values over one million
dollars to allocate 1 % of the construction budget for the provision of public art" was

overlooked when discussion of public art at the facility began over a year ago. Members
discussed forming a delegation to Council in the new year to address this issue.
ACTION:
Peter and Annalee will draft a letter to Council from ACAC, advising that the university be
asked to comply with the City of Kitchener Public Art Policy.
5.2 DAC Report
Shelley Adams and Cory Bluhm each made a presentation to DAC.
5.3 CDC Report -Ron
No report.

5.4 Arts Council Report -Martin
No report.
5.5 Staff Report -Cheryl
• The Cultural Capitals project was approved by Council and is in the final stages of
completion. The results should be known by April 2007.
6.0 ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING
Denis made a motion to adjourn the October ACAC meeting. All were in favoured; carried.
The next meeting will be held on November 14 in the Schmaltz Room at Kitchener City Hall
starting at 4:00 p.m.
