RECOMMENDATION:
Applications for Cancellation, Refund, Reduction or Levy of Taxes
April 24th Hearing
BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that, pursuant to Section #357 of The Municipal Act,
S.O. 2001, applications to City Council for Cancellation, Reduction,
refund or levy of taxes, Council approve the thirty applications, totalling
$40,167.54, in the report attached to FIN-06-013.
Thirty applications for adjustment of taxes under Section #357 of The Municipal Act, S.O. 2001
were processed, resulting in a net reduction of taxes in the amount of $40,167.54. The required
notices to the affected parties were sent out in accordance with the relevant legislation.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The total amount of $40,167.54 includes $438.54 of Business Improvement Area reductions.
The tax reductions are shared with the Regional Municipality of Waterloo and the School
Boards. The net effect to the City of Kitchener amounts to approximately $9,150.00 in tax levy
and $438.43 in Business Improvement area levy to be reduced.
