Evans, Director of Revenue (Ext. 2895) All September 14, 2006 FIN-06-028 RECOMMENDATION: Applications for Cancellation, Refund, Reduction or Levy of Taxes September 25th Hearing BACKGROUND: It is recommended that, pursuant to Section #357 of The Municipal Act, S.O. 2001, applications to City Council for Cancellation, Reduction, refund or levy of taxes, Council approve the thirty applications, totalling $240,479.44, in the report attached to FIN-06-028. Sixty six applications for adjustment of taxes under Section #357 of The Municipal Act, S.O. 2001 were processed, resulting in a net reduction of taxes in the amount of $240,479.44. The required notices to the affected parties were sent out in accordance with the relevant legislation. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The total amount of $240,479.44 includes $2,256.21 of Business Improvement Area reductions. The tax reductions are shared with the Regional Municipality of Waterloo and the School Boards. The net effect to the City of Kitchener amounts to $52,528.90 in tax levy and $2,256.21 in Business Improvement area levy to be reduced. Joyce V.
