Date of Report: November 29, 2006
Report No.: CRPS-06-173
Subject: COMMITTEE TERMS TO COINCIDE WITH NEW TERM OF
COUNCIL
RECOMMENDATION:
That Council Policies I-77 (Compass Kitchener -Terms of Reference) and I-95 (Economic
Development Advisory Committee -Terms of Reference) be amended by changing the term of
the members appointed from 3 years to concurrent with the term of Council.
REPORT:
In 2006, the Province amended the Municipal Elections Act to extend the term of Council to 4
years from 3. This change also has an impact on various legislated boards such as Library
Boards and Business Improvement Boards where the legislation states those boards will have a
term to run concurrent with the term of Council. With respect to the City's advisory Committees,
most have a term of 2 years except Compass Kitchener and the Economic Development
Advisory Committee (EDAC) which have always had a term or 3 years, concurrent with the term
of Council.
In order to keep the term of these committees concurrent with Councils' the Terms of Reference
will need to be amended by removing reference to 3 years.
