Zehr and Members of Counicl February 14, 2005 R. Gosse, Director of Legislated Services R. Gosse n/a February 9, 2005 CRPS-05-025 APPOINTMENT TO ARTS & CULTURE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: That be appointed to the Arts & Culture Advisory Committee for a term ending November 30, 2006. BACKGROUND: In November 2004, Council made its appointments to various Boards and Committees. Since that time Cathy Menard has resign from the Arts & Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) and the Committee has requested that Council appoint someone to replace her. REPORT: To fill the vacancy on ACAC Council has two options: advertise for applicants and make the appointment from eligible candidates or, consider the candidates who applied to the Committee in November 2004 but were not appointed. Advertising for the vacancy will incur costs of approximately $500 and will take another 4 weeks to complete the process. There were three candidates from the November appointments that were not selected and all three have indicated that they wish to be considered for the vacancy. Should Council decide to consider the three candidates, their applications will be circulated under separate cover to the members of Council. It is noted that one of the applications being circulated is from a candidate that does not meet the Policy on appointments to Boards and Committees as she does not reside, work or own property in the City of Kitchener. Should Council wish to appoint Ms. Isabel Cisterna to the Committee, Council is reminded that the following resolution must be adopted by a majority of vote of two thirds of the Members of Council present at the time the vote is taken: "That notwithstanding the provisions of Clause 3 of Policy No. 1-63 (Appointments to Boards and Committees), we hereby confirm the following appointment: namely: Aooointee' Name." FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Should Council decide to direct staff to advertise for the vacancy, then approximately $500 will be incurred to place an AD in The Record. R. Gosse - Director of Legislated Services
