CRPS-05-059
REQUEST FOR THE SALE OF FOOD AND SOUVENIRS AT
ALL TOURNAMENTS ON CITY SPORTSFIELDS
RECOMMENDATION:
That approval be granted to sports organizations that are holding tournaments, during the
months May through November, 2005 and have received Field Rental Permits/contracts from
Community Services at the sportsfields listed on Schedule 'A' attached to Corporate Services
Department report CRPS-05-059; to run a concession which may include the sale of
hamburgers, hot dogs, pop, water, packaged foods, etc. as well as souvenirs, provided the
necessary licence, including Health and Fire approval, is obtained."
BACKGROUND:
Council Policy requires Council's approval prior to a licence being issued to allow sales to take
place on City property. Traditionally, each sports organization has been required to obtain
Council approval each time that they hold a tournament at City sportsfields and wish to sell food
or souvenirs. In recent years, some of these organizations have been negligent in obtaining this
approval until the tournament is about to begin and this has caused difficulties for the
organization and the City, especially in the summer months when Council meetings are not as
frequent.
REPORT:
Many sports organizations wish to raise money through operation of a concession stand to
cover tournament expenses. Licensing and Community Services have held discussions in order
to simplify the process and make it more efficient. Staff have determined that one resolution of
Council to cover the entire summer and fall season will allow the organizations involved, to
obtain their licences in a more timely fashion ensuring compliance with the Municipal Code.

None.
