HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRPS-05-074 - Noise Exemption - Relay For Life Campaign ~ Report To: Date of Meeting: Submitted By: Prepared By: Ward(s) Involved: Date of Report: Report No.: Subject: Finance and Corporate Services Committee May 2, 2005 Gary Sosnoski, General Manager of Corporate Services and City Clerk Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement Forest - Rockway April 27, 2005 CRPS-05-074 EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - FOREST HEIGHTS COLLEGIATE - RELAY FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN RECOMMENDATION: That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to Forest Heights Collegiate between the hours of 7 P.M. on May 27 to 7 A.M. on May 28, 2005, for their Relay for Life Campaign being held in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society. BACKGROUND: Forest Heights Collegiate will be hosting a Relay for Life campaign in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society from the evening of May 27th to the morning of May 28th. The event will involve a running relay event on the school's outdoor track facility as well as some events inside the school. There will be some music being played outside from 7P.M. to midnight. As such, they are requesting an exemption from Chapter 450 (Noise). Attached is a copy of their exemption request. REPORT: The event organizers have indicated that they will take all possible steps to reduce any adverse impacts that the resulting noise may have. The music played outside will be from a small stereo and will not involve a loud amplication system. They have also taken steps to inform the neighbourhood of the event by delivering an information piece to the residential homes in the area on Sunday April 24th and will redistribute a reminder notice approximately 2 weeks prior to the event. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, the By-law Enforcement Division does not object to this request for an exemption. Shayne Turner Director of By-law Enforcement End
