HomeMy WebLinkAboutCSD-07-003 - Appointments to the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (2007) ) ~ Community Services ~ Report To: Date of Meeting: Submitted By: Prepared By: Ward(s) Involved: Date of Report: Report No.: Subject: Finance and Corporate Services Committee January 8,2007 Mark Hildebrand, Interim Director, Community Programs and Services (ext. 2687) Kelly Steiss, Inclusion Coordinator (ext. 2226) All December 19, 2006 CSD-07 -03 APPOINTMENTS TO THE GRAND RIVER ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (2007) RECOMMENDATION: That the following persons; Brad Ullner, Mary Beth Hunter and Gordon Cummer, be appointed to the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC) for a 3 year term ending December 31, 2009. BACKGROUND: The Terms of Reference of the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC), adopted by Council in 2003 specify that the Committee will consist of 11-15 members of which a majority must be persons with a disability. A selection committee of staff representing the participating municipalities reviewed the applications and made recommendations based on the Terms of Reference. The recommendations are now being forwarded to each participating Council for ratification. REPORT: Advertisements requesting application to this Committee were placed in various newspapers throughout the community and the Region. A Selection Committee met on November 19th to review the applications for consideration. In review of these applications, the Selection Committee strived to ensure geographic representation from the participating municipalities as well as ensuring that various disability groups were represented. Pending ratification by municipalities of the City of Waterloo, the Region of Waterloo, the Township of Woolwich, the Township of North Dumfries and the Township of Wellesley, the following 3 persons are recommended for appointment by the City of Kitchener. Brad Ullner Mar Beth Hunter Gordon Cummer Cit of Waterloo Cit of Kitchener Cit of Waterloo Mr. Ullner is being reappointed to the Committee. Ms. Hunter and Mr. Cummer are new appointments. Each of these members will serve a 3-year term. Names and terms of appointment of all GRAAC Committee members will be forwarded to the Office of the City Clerk for tracking purposes. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: NIL COMMUNICATIONS: All applicants for consideration to this Committee will be acknowledged and informed as to whether or not they have been selected.
