HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRPS-05-098 - WREPNet Agreements ~ Report To: Date of Meeting: Submitted By: Prepared By: Ward(s) Involved: Date of Report: Report No.: Subject: Committee of the Whole Monday May 30, 2005 Lesley MacDonald, Director of Legal Services and City Solicitor (Ext. # 2267) Lesley MacDonald, Director of Legal Services and City Solicitor N/A May 26, 2005 CRPS - 05 - 098 RECOMMENDATION: WREPNET AGREEMENTS "That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute the Joint Venture Agreement Acknowledgements with the Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, The Corporation of the City of Waterloo, The Corporation of the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Board, Waterloo Public Library Board, Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology, Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo satisfactory to the City Solicitor, to acknowledge the addition of Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region, incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, as participants in WREPNET, the Waterloo Region Education Public Network. -and - That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute the Fibre Optic Cable Facilities Lease Agreement Acknowledgements with the Hydro-Electric Commission of Waterloo, Wellesley and Woolwich, the Hydro-Electric Commission of Kitchener-Wilmot, and the Hydro-Electric Commission of Cambridge and North Dumfries, the Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, The Corporation of the City of Waterloo, The Corporation of the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Board, Waterloo Public Library Board, Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology, Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, satisfactory to the City Solicitor, to acknowledge the addition of Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region, incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, as participants in WREPNET, the Waterloo Region Education Public Network. -and - That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute the Service Level and Network Operation Centre Agreement with Unis Lumin Inc., the Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, The Corporation of the City of Waterloo, The Corporation of the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Board, Waterloo Public Library Board, Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology, Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo satisfactory to the City Solicitor, for the provision of network operation and maintenance support services for WREPNET, the Waterloo Region Education Public Network. " EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: N/A BACKGROUND: In 1999 Council agreed to enter into a joint venture with the Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, The Corporation of the City of Waterloo, The Corporation of the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Board, Waterloo Public Library Board, Regional Municipality of Waterloo, and Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology for the purposes of establishing a high volume telecommunication network in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, originally referred to as WRECN and subsequently changed to WREPNET, the Waterloo Region Education Public Network. REPORT: It was contemplated at the time that additional public partners could be brought into the project subject to the concurrence of the parties. Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality wish to participate in this venture and agree to be bound by the same terms and provisions as the other participants. The Service Level and Network Operation Agreement provides for the maintenance support services required to carry out this project. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: N/A COMMUNICATIONS: N/A CONCLUSION: Staff welcomes the participation of Grand River Hospital, and Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of the Regional Municipality and supports the execution of the acknowledgements to bind them to the various agreements pertaining to the WREPNET project.
