Gosse, Director of Legislated Services n/a June 20, 2005 CRPS-05-116 APPOINTMENT TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: That Sherryl Petricevic, representing the High Tech Sector and Don Zehr, representing the Major Retail Sector, be appointed to the Economic Development Advisory Committee for a term ending November 30, 2006; and, That Mr. Shawky Fahel and Mr. Manfred Conrad be removed from the Committee due to attendance issues; and further, That an advertisement be placed for qualified candidates to fill the outstanding vacancies on the Economic Development Advisory Committee and the Downtown Advisory Committee. BACKGROUND: Recently, Jane Jantzi and Scott Baird resigned from the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC). In addition, the Committee is asking Council to consider a motion to remove two members from the Committee due to a lack of attendance. In November 2004 when Council made its appointments to various Boards and Committees, not all positions on the Downtown Advisory Committee (DAC) were filled and remain unfilled to this date. REPORT: To fill the vacancies on EDAC and DAC, Council has two options: advertise for applicants and make the appointments from eligible candidates or, consider any eligible candidates being suggested by the Committees. In the case of EDAC, the Committee has found two eligible candidates to fill the vacancies created by the resignation of Ms. Jantzi and Mr. Baird. Sherryl Petricevic and Don Zehr are eligible candidates to represent the High Tech and Major Retail Sectors respectively. In addition to the other vacancies that will be created with the removal of Mr. Fahel and Mr. Conrad, the terms of reference for EDAC were amended in the last year to include representation from the Education, Health Care and Arts/Culture Sectors but these have never been filled. It is recommended by EDAC that an advertisement be placed in The Record for eligible candidates. At this time there is also the situation of various positions on DAC not being filled and it has been suggested that these also be advertised along with the EDAC positions in order to reduce costs. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Should Council decide to direct staff to advertise for the vacancy, then approximately $500 will be incurred to place an AD in The Record. R.
