Gosse, Director of Legislated Services/Deputy City Clerk Patricia Harris, Interim Manager of Licensing June 21, 2005 CRPS-05-117 REQUEST BY MULTICULTURAL CENTRE TO HOLD A SPECIAL EVENT - SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 RECOMMENDATION: That the Multicultural Centre be approved to hold a Grand Opening Celebration on the green space beside 102 King St. W., on September 22,2005 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and The City of Kitchener has no objection to a liquor licence being issued to the Multicultrual Centre for an event on September 22, 2005. BACKGROUND: Council Policy 1-325 does not permit the sale of alcohol to take place in open parks, sports fields, trails, playgrounds and related areas. However, an exception can be made in the case of a municipally approved event in a clearly designated and restricted area. REPORT: Attached is a letter from Jennifer O'Connor, Festival and Events Coordinator for the K-W Multicultural Centre requesting Council's permission to hold a reception on September 22, 2005 on the green space beside their new centre. This reception is to celebrate the opening of The Multicultural Centre at 102 King Street West. They are requesting permission to sell alcohol on the green space as well as provide food and entertainment to the invited guests. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None.
