HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRPS-05-143 - Noise Exemption - K-W Oktoberfest inc. ~ Report To: Date of Meeting: Submitted By: Prepared By: Ward(s) Involved: Date of Report: Report No.: Subject: Finance and Corporate Services Committee September 26, 2005 Gary Sosnoski, General Manager of Corporate Services and City Clerk Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement All September 21,2005 CRPS-05-143 EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - K-W OKTOBERFEST EVENTS RECOMMENDATION: That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to K-W Oktoberfest Inc. for a series of events being held at various clubs between October 7th and October 15th, 2005, as outlined in the letter from K-W Oktoberfest Inc., dated September 19, 2005, attached to Report CRPS-05-143. BACKGROUND: K-W Oktoberfest Inc. is requesting an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City's Municipal Code for a series of events that are being held at 8 clubs, during the 2005 Oktoberfest festivities, running from October 7th to 15th, 2005. A copy of their request is attached. REPORT: Staff within the By-law Enforcement Division report that the number of noise complaints relating to these events over the past several years has been minimal at best. Typically, there appears to be a large a degree of acceptance by City residents to these events, given their vast popularity and broad community benefits. The level of cooperation that staff have received from event organizers has been positive. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: Based on the circumstances surrounding this request, the By-law Enforcement Division does not object to this request for an exemption. Shayne Turner Director of By-law Enforcement End
