Subject: REQUEST FROM ST. JACOBS LIONS CLUB TO HOLD
BINGOS ON AN ON-GOING BASIS
RECOMMENDATION:
That the request of the St. Jacobs Lions Club to hold bingos in the City of Kitchener be
approved, providing that the funds being raised are used for charitable purposes as mandated
in the Provincial Regulations.
BACKGROUND:
Council Policy I-875, as amended September, 2003 permits qualified organizations operating
within the Region to operate bingos in the City of Kitchener, provided that their home base city
does not have a bingo hall. The Policy also requires that Council must approve non-profit
organizations prior to a lottery licence being issued to them.
REPORT:
Attached is a letter from Ron Ross, Past President of the St. Jacobs Lions Club, requesting
permission to hold bingos at K-W Bingo Centre in Kitchener. This organization held bingo's in
Waterloo prior to the bingo hall closing. They have presented their qualifications and are
eligible to operate bingos. They wish to raise funds to support the training of future Guide Dogs,
the Sunbeam Home and various other programs in the community.
