ON-STREET PARKING - DUKE STREET WEST
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That on-street parking be prohibited at anytime on the north side of Duke Street West from
Victoria Street North to Wellington Street; and further,
That on-street parking be prohibited at anytime on the south side of Duke Street West from
Victoria Street North to Breithaupt Street; and further,
BACKGROUND:
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
Transportation Planning has received a request from the City of Kitchener Legal Services and
Enforcement Divisions to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Duke Street West
from Victoria Street North to Wellington Street.
At the present time, as shown on the attached plan, on-street parking is prohibited at anytime on
the south side of Duke Street West from Breithaupt Street to a point 28 metres west of
Wellington Street. Additionally, there is no stopping anytime on both sides of Duke Street West
from Francis Street to Wellington Street (4:30 p.m.. to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday), as outlined
in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2000-159.
REPORT:
A recent sight investigation revealed that the current on-street parking regulations posted on
Duke Street West from Victoria Street North to Wellington Street are not recognized in the City
of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2000-159. Currently, signing on Duke Street West
prohibits parking at anytime on both sides of the road from Victoria Street North to Wellington
Street and yet it is not reflected in the Uniform Traffic By-law.
Duke Street West between Victoria Street North & Wellington Street is designated as a major
collector roadway with a priority to move fairly significant volumes of traffic, safely and
efficiently. Therefore, Transportation Planning recommends that the existing on-street parking
prohibition posted on Duke Street West from Victoria Street North to Wellington Street be
maintained and accurately reflected in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2000-159.
