November 22, 2006 City of Kitchener
The Economic Development Advisory Committee met this date, chaired by Hans
Pottkamper, commencing at 11:15 a.m. with the following members in
attendance: Councillor John Smola, Councillor Christina Weylie, Mayor Carl
Zehr, Henrik Noesgaard, Adrian Conrad, Ian Cook, Peter Benninger, Howie
Budd, Mark Palzency, Bob Denton, Sunshine Chen, Lawrence Bingeman, Don
Zehr

1. NEW BUSINESS
1.1 Approval of minutes -
The minutes of October 25, 2006 be approved.

1.1 Manufacturin_g Task Force -Update
The Committee received a draft of the Manufacturing Task Force Terms of
Reference document that was drawn up by members of the task force. Mr. Rod
Regier advised that as a result of a recommendation to Council, the City of
Kitchener work to bring together key players within the Region to form a task
force to assist in maintaining a strong manufacturing economy. Mr. Regier
provided the Committee with an overview of the meeting that was held with the
task force on October 3, 2006.
The Committee read through and revised wording of the Terms of Reference
document. Mr. Regier advised that he would present the revised draft to the task
force round table groups at their next meeting.
1.2 Centre Block - Update
Mr. Hans Gross provided an update to the Committee on the status of the Centre
Block project. He advised that the Request for Proposal is currently underway.
There has been information sessions held in Kitchener and one to be held in
Toronto to provided interested parties with an opportunity to learn more and
discuss any concerns they may have.
He advised that there will be an Evaluation Committee formed to assist in the
decision making process. There are 4 citizen advisor positions that will be
appointed by Council on December 18, 2006.
1.3 Downtown -Update
Ms. Silvia Wright provided the Committee with an update on the current
downtown activity. She advised that there will be an opportunity for a complete
update in January/February 2007. She noted that the downtown is now wireless
and that they are working with the Kitchener Downtown Business Association to
ensure that the implementation of the wireless network goes well. She also
advised the Committee that the loft sales are doing very well and almost
completely sold out.
