HomeMy WebLinkAboutEcon Dev Adv - 2006-12-13ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES December 13, 2006 City of Kitchener The Economic Development Advisory Committee met this date, chaired by Councillor Christina Weylie, commencing at 11:15 a.m. with the following members in attendance: Mayor Carl Zehr, Dan Piedra, Glen Woolner, Bob Denton, Len Carter Gerry Remers, Jeremy Auger, Peter Benninger, Lawrence Bingeman, Adrian Conrad, Ian Cook, Henrik Noesgaard, Sherryl Petricevic, Don Zehr, The following people sent their regrets: The following people were absent: Staff in attendance: Rod Regier, Rob Morgan, Tracey DeVille, Terry Boutilier, Valerie Bradford, Chantelle Dixon, Kathy Weiss 1. NEW BUSINESS 1.1 Background of EDAC Councillor Christina Weylie welcomed the new members to the Committee and asked that all staff present introduce themselves and provide the Committee members with a brief description of their role and how they fit into Economic Development. She also asked each member of the Committee to introduce themselves and provide a description of their roles in the community and how they fit into the Advisory Committee mandate. Mr. Rod Regier, Executive Director provided the Committee with some background information and a brief review of the past year. Mr. Regier spoke on the foundation of the Economic Development Strategy and noted the following issues the Committee has discussed over the past year: - Light Rail Transit - Employment Lands - Economic Development & Arts - Digital Media - WLU -School of Social Work - Urban Development Agreement - Business Retention - South Kitchener Transportation Study - Industrial Land - East Side Lands - Biotech Cluster - Arts & Culture Cluster - U of W -School of Pharmacy - Hydro -Small business & Manufacturing - Manufacturing Task Force Mayor Carl Zehr advised the Committee of their importance of providing recommendations to Council on these various subjects. Mayor Zehr thanked the Committee members for their time and commitment. The Committee was given the 2007 meeting schedule and the meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
