Gosse, Director of Legislated Services/City Clerk Prepared By: Patricia Harris, Manager of Licensing Ward(s~ Involved: Date of Report: February 9, 2007 Report No.: CRPS-07-023 Subject: REQUEST FROM WATERLOO LIONS CLUB TO HOLD BINGOS ON ANON-GOING BASIS RECOMMENDATION: That the request of the Waterloo Lions Club to hold bingos in the City of Kitchener be approved, providing that the funds being raised are used for charitable purposes as mandated in the Provincial Regulations. BACKGROUND: Council Policy I-875, as amended September, 2003 permits qualified organizations operating within the Region to operate bingos in the City of Kitchener, provided that their home base city does not have a bingo hall. The Policy also requires that Council must approve non-profit organizations prior to a lottery licence being issued to them. REPORT: A request was received from the Waterloo Lions Club for permission to hold bingos at K-W Bingo Centre, 501 Krug Street in Kitchener. This organization held bingo's in Waterloo prior to the bingo hall closing. They have presented their qualifications and are eligible to operate bingos. They wish to raise funds for both Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital as well as various other programs in the community.
