HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIN-07-019 - T07-006 - Huron Natural Area - Main Access Area Development Project Report To: Mayor Carl Zehr & Members of Council Date of Meeting: 2007 -02- 26 Prepared By: Larry Gordon Date of Report: 2007 -02-19 Report No: FIN 07-019 Subject: T07-006 - Huron Natural Area - Main Access Area Development Project RECOMMENDA TION That tender T07-006, Huron Natural Area - Main Access Area Development Project, be awarded to Draftcon Calamar Corp., Niagara on the Lake, Ontario at their adjusted tendered price of $879,495.78, including provisional items and contingency of $25,000. and G.S.T., less $53,000., for the masonry portion of the contract, and that the City award the masonry portion of the contract to George and Asmussen Limited (GA Masonry), at their price of $53,000., including G.S.T., and further that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute an agreement satisfactory to the City Solicitor. BACKGROUND Huron Natural Area (HNA) is the largest natural park in the City of Kitchener. Located in the south-western corner of the City of Kitchener and within the Strasburg Creek sub-watershed, it is one of the most valuable natural areas in the City because of the richness and diversity of ecologies and opportunities for environmental education on site. The 2001 Huron Natural Area Master plan indicated that the works through the superbuild funding were a priority and included the development of a main access point off Trillium Drive with a parking lot, bus drop-off, washroom & shelter facility with green roof, entry courtyard with benches & tables, walkways & trails, signage & interpretative education walls and landscaping. REPORT Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, The Daily Commercial News, on the City of Kitchener website and on the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System. Twenty-nine (29) potential bidders picked up tender documents, and by the closing date of Thursday January 25th, 2007, nine (9) tenders had been received. The tenders were reviewed by B. Roth, Roth & Associates, Waterloo, the City's Consultants for the project, and D. Ritz, Parks Planning, Development & Operations, who concur with the above recommendation.
