The Kitchener Downtown Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:05 p.m.,
Chaired by Councillor Christina Weylie with the following members present: Marty Schreiter,
Bernie Nimer, Nadine Cybulski, Karen Taylor-Harrison, Tomas Seebohm, Vince Buehler, Chris
Farley, Glenn Scheels, Glen Woolner, Scott Hayter
City staff present include: Silvia Wright, Sandy Curzon, Tracey DeVille and Troy Speck.
1. Business Arising
1.1 2007 DAC Members -Introduction
A round table introduction was done by the new members and the staff members that
were present.
1.2 Advisory Committee Role -Presentation
Mr. Troy Speck, General Manager of Corporate Services provided the new committee
members with an overview of their roles and responsibilities as committee members. He
explained the process for submitting recommendations to Council.
1.3 Co-Chair Nominations
Mr. Glenn Scheels was nominated for Co-Chair. On motion, the Committee appointed
Glenn Scheels to Co-Chair.
1.4 EDAC Representative -Nominations & Appointments
Mr. Glen Woolner was appointed to represent DAC on the Economic Development
Advisory Committee.
1.5 Safe & Healthy Advisory Committee -Nominations & Appointments
Ms. Nadine Cybulski was appointed to represent DAC on the Safe & Healthy Advisory
Committee.
1.6 2007 Calendar
Discussion took place on the upcoming meeting schedule. It was suggested that the
following items be on future agendas:
March: Downtown Strategic Plan Volume III
Communications (DVD)
Financial Incentives Program

Streetscape Masterplan -Consultant presentation

Other areas of interest/concern were raised for the possibility of discussion:

2. Downtown Streetscape - King Street Master Plan -Recommendation to Council
Ms. Silvia Wright provided the committee with some background information regarding the
King Street Master Plan and the Committee's past involvement. She noted that a report
was to have gone forward to Council endorsing the acceleration of the master plan to
coincide with the opening of the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy; however, that
report was delayed until now. She advised that the current recommendation should be
reviewed and updated by the Committee.
The Committee then went into discussion and the following wording was agreed upon:
"That the City of Kitchener prioritize King Street improvements in accordance with the proposed
streetscape master plan, specifically that the improvement to lighting, sidewalks & plantings for
King Street from Frederick Street to Victoria Street be implemented expeditiously in 2008."
The above report will be submitted to the Finance & Corporate Services Committee
meeting on February 19, 2007.
3. Minute Approval
The minutes of the November 9, 2006 meeting were approved.
On motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
