HomeMy WebLinkAboutEcon Dev Adv - 2007-01-24ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES January 24, 2007 City of Kitchener The Economic Development Advisory Committee met this date, chaired by Councillor Christina Weylie, commencing at 11:15 a.m. with the following members in attendance: Dan Piedra, Len Carter, Gerry Remers, Adrian Conrad, Ian Cook, Sherryl Petricevic, Don Zehr, The following people sent their regrets: Peter Benninger, Howie Budd, Jeremy Auger, Bob Denton The following people were absent: Staff in attendance: Rod Regier, Kathy Weiss, Rob Morgan, Chantelle Dixon, Shelley Adams, Valerie Bradford, Carla Ladd, Silvia Wright, Hans Gross, Sandy Curzon, Cory Bluhm, Terry Boutilier and Tracey DeVille 1. NEW BUSINESS 1.1 Committee Roles and Responsibilities Presentation Councillor C. Weylie introduced Carla Ladd, CAO. Ms. Ladd provided the Committee with a presentation on their roles and responsibilities of being a member of an advisory committee of council. She provided information on how each advisory committee has a relationship with Council and staff. She explained some of the different initiatives that the Committees have been involved in. An overview of the reporting structure was described and Ms. Ladd advised that Council and staff look to the committees for recommendations and opinions. 1.2 New Member Introduction / Co-Chair Appointment Coucnillor C. Weylie asked the committee members to introduce themselves. Everyone, including staff present, provided a brief description of their roles. Councillor Weylie as for nominations for Co-Chair. Adrian Conrad was nominated, and approved by the Committee. Councillor Weylie advised the Committee that 2 applications have been received for new members. She asked for a motion to approve Don Zehr and Willy Heffner. A motion was put forward by Len Carter and seconded by Sherryl Petricevic. 1.3 Centre Block Update Rod Regier provided a brief update on Centre Block, noting that the private sector members have been selected and have met. He advised at this point there is no new information. 1.4 Calendar A discussion on the 2007 Calendar took place and the following were identified as potential discussion items: ^ Economic Development Strategic Plan ^ Work plans for Cluster Strategies ^ Urban Vitality ^ Parking ^ Joint DAC/EDAC Meeting ^ LRT Update ^ Business Visitation ^ Marketing Strategy On motion, the meeting was adjourned at 1:00 pm.
