WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 2002 A motion was made by Ron Green to approve the minutes from the September meeting. All were in favour; carried. DELEGATION: Nicholas Rees · Another artifact has been added to the collection: A punch press, unveiled at King and Francis Sts. during Downtown Kitchener week in September. The idea is to create a "museum without walls" on a walking tour of Downtown showcasing the artifacts. · An application has been made for an HRDC grant to hire 3 people: one to design a website, one to work with Erina in Community Services Department on the Artifacts Project (shared time) and one to work with KPL and the Waterloo Historical Society. · Two new artifacts have been added to the collection. An old sewing machine is displayed in the window of the CAO's office viewable to people outside the building. The second artifact is an antique transformer that will be displayed near the new parking garage to be built on Charles Street. Also, Economic Development is budgeting dollars to fix up a space at 156 King Street that will be used to display different artifacts every few months. · The Kaufman steam engine, Hazel, has been unofficially donated to and received by the City although it still needs to be officially accepted by City Council. A committee was formed to discuss what is to be done with the engine, a fully working model and the keystone of the Artifacts Project. Babcock and Wilcox (formerly Goldie McCullough, the makers of the engine) may be approached to see if they are interested in providing funding for restoration. As well, a shoe lathe has been purchased that could be displayed alongside the engine. 3.2 3.3 BUSINESS ARISING Live-Work Space Update- Erina/Isabella This item will be deferred to the November meeting.
