HomeMy WebLinkAboutDowntown Advisory - 2007-03-08DOWNTOWN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES March 8, 2007 City of Kitchener The Kitchener Downtown Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:00 p.m., Chaired by Councillor John Smola with the following members present: Councillor Christina Weylie, Marty Schreiter, Bernie Nimer, Nadine Cybulski, Karen Taylor-Harrison, Thomas Seebohm, Vince Buehler, Glen Woolner, Scott Hayter City staff present include: Rod Regier, Silvia Wright, Sandy Curzon, Tracey DeVille, Cory Bluhm and Don Chapman. 1. Business Arising 1.1 Orientation Ms. Silvia Wright provided a presentation on the evolution of downtown Kitchener which included the following: ^ Where we are now ^ Trends ^ How to be magnetic /maximize opportunities ^ What's next The committee entered into discussion regarding urban design guidelines and Mr. Cory Bluhm advised that this will be discussed further at the April DAC meeting. 1.2 Centre Block Update Mr. Rod Regier provided the committee with an update on the Centre Block process: ^ 4 citizen members were appointed by Council ^ Request for Proposal original timeline schedule will possibly be fast forwarded Proponents interviewed will be required to meet the following qualifications: ^ Ability to deliver the project ^ Track record ^ Past projects He advised that the Centre Block Evaluation Process Committee is currently going through the screening process with hopes of releasing the 2 finalists to the public within 3 weeks. 1.3 Financial Incentives Update Ms. Silvia Wright advised the Committee that she will be looking for the program to run the same way it did last year and she will be asking Council for 0% interest. The Committee supported this. Page 1 of 2 Downtown Advisory Committee Minutes March 8, 2007 1.5 Delegation Ms. Amanda Johnson, a student with the University of Waterloo was in attendance to ask the Committee members to become involved in a study she is doing on downtown Kitchener. She asked that if you are interested, all you need to do is take pictures of things that you like and do not like about downtown Kitchener and be willing to discuss the pictures in an interview later in the year. She handed out the information to the Committee. 2. Minute Approval The minutes of the February 8, 2007 meeting were approved.
