Subject: REQUEST FOR COMMUNITY FESTIVAL DESIGNATION -
OUR LADYOF FATIMA FESTIVAL-SEPTEMBER 1 & 2,
2007 -1548 FISCHER-HALLMAN ROAD
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City of Kitchener has no objection to a liquor licence being issued to Our Lady of
Fatima Festival Committee for an event to be held September 1 & 2, 2007 at 1548 Fischer-
Hallman Road, Kitchener, provided a building permit is obtained for the erection of any tents;
and further,
That the event be declared a "Community Festival" for the purpose of applying for a liquor
licence, since this is a traditional Portuguese celebration of their heritage that promotes unity
and understanding within our community.
BACKGROUND:
A Council Resolution is required prior to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission issuing a Liquor
Licence for this event. A similar request was approved by Council last year.
REPORT:
Attached is a letter from Leonardo Melo, Festival Committee Secretary, requesting Council to
designate this event as a "Community Festival". He advises that this is a traditional Portuguese
religious celebration of their heritage that promotes unity and understanding within our
community. No problems have been experienced with this event in previous years.
