RENEWAL OF CO-OPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH
MARMO TRAVEL CLUB INC.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Co-operative Agreement with Marmo Travel Club Inc. be renewed for the 2007
year; and,
That the General Manager of Community Services be authorized to renew this agreement
annually, subject to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor.
BACKGROUND:
The Marmo Travel Club was established in 1970 and supervised by City of Kitchener staff until
1988. In 1988, the club was incorporated as a not for profit organization and since then, has
been successfully managed by a board of directors, recruited from travel club members, and
one paid staff person.
Marmo Travel Club offers day trips and overnight trips exclusively for travellers aged 50 + years.
In 2006, membership was 883 individuals. Over 90 excursions per year are offered by Marmo
and members have the opportunity to book tours with affiliated tour operators at a discount.
Marmo Travel Club offices are located at the Rockway Centre.
REPORT:
The Rockway Centre and the Marmo Travel Club have enjoyed a mutually beneficial
partnership. Marmo Travel Club offers complementary recreational opportunities for area
seniors and attracts another segment of the adult 50+ population to the Rockway Centre.

By using the expertise of volunteers in a variety of roles (bookkeepers, sales, tour escorts etc.),
Marmo creates meaningful opportunities for area seniors and minimizes operating costs. This
capacity building model is consistent with the philosophy and approach of the Rockway Centre.
The agreement with Marmo Travel Club will have similar provisions to the 2006 agreement, with
the exception of a 30/0 increase added to the fee paid by Marmo Travel Club.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
This agreement will generate $6,090.00 in revenue and will offset the costs of participating in
this cooperative agreement.
CONCLUSION:
Over the past 35 years, area seniors have demonstrated their interest and support for the
Marmo Travel Club. The programs and service offered by Marmo is complementary to the
activities offered at the Rockway centre.
