DOWNTOWN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
April 12, 2007 City of Kitchener
The Kitchener Downtown Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 3:00 p.m.,
Chaired by Glenn Scheels with the following members present: Bernie Nimer, Karen Taylor-
Harrison, Thomas Seebohm, Vince Buehler, Glen Woolner, Chris Farley, Denis Pellerin,
Suzanne Ronald, Linda Stewart
City staff present include: Rod Regier, Silvia Wright, Tracey DeVille, Chantelle Dixon

1.1 CURA Presentation
Member of Community-University Research Alliances(CURA) provided a presentation on the
history. They provided the Committee with a detailed presentation on the purpose and actions
of CURA. Through it’s presentation, the Committee learned of the work that had been done
including details on the 23 projects that were undertaken by CURA.
The Committee thanked the members of CURA for attending and providing an excellent
presentation.
1.2 A by-law to regulate public nuisances
Mr. Shayne Turner, Director of Enforcement discussed with the Committee, a proposed by-law
that would provide all levels of enforcement the ability to process a ticket for behavior that
previously required an individual to be arrested and formally charged. He advised the
Committee that this is in the best interest of any individual considering the alternative. Mr.
Turner advised the Committee that the City of Waterloo has a similar by-law and has had a
great amount of success. He is anticipating that this report will go to Council for approval in
May.
1.3 Downtown Monitoring Report
Ms. Chantelle Dixon provided the Committee with an update on the status of the Downtown
Monitoring Report. The Committee discussed the report and determined that the following
items should be addressed:
Downtown Strategic Plan – implement on-going updates
?
Celebrate success in the downtown – eg. Wireless downtown need banner
?
eview strategic plan and make recommendations on need for and process

2. Minute Approval
The minutes of the March 8, 2007 meeting were approved.
On motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
