Weber, Deputy Fire Chief Prepared By: J. Weber, Deputy Fire Chief Ward(s) Involved: All Date of Report: November 22, 2007 Report No.: DTS 07-189 Subject: Deferral of DTS Recommendation RECOMMENDATION: "That Council amend the recommendation from the Development & Technical Services Committee deferring consideration of the Emergency Service Policy, to be further deferred to the Council meeting of January 14t", 2008 to allow staff an opportunity to discuss this proposed policy with the development industry and the Cities of Cambridge and Waterloo." REPORT: Fire Department representatives presented DTS-07-141 Emergency Services Policy with attached appendices to recommend repealing current Council Policy I-1035 and adopt a new policy which clarifies several issues. Issues included water supply, fire route signage, emergency access, and multiple unit identification signage. As it stands the policy will apply to small buildings not addressed in the Building Code. The recommendation from the DTS committee meeting on November 19t" was to deferthe adoption of the new policy until the December 10t" council meeting to permit staff time to consult with developers and other local municipalities. In our endeavour to complete that task, staff have been slotted time on the next Waterloo Regional dome Builders Association meeting on December 14t", 2007. This will delay our ability to report back to Council on our consultation until the first meeting of Council in January 2008. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None. COMMUNICATIONS: None J. Weber Deputy Fire Chief
