Weylie, Chair and Members of the Development and Technical Services Committee January 7, 2008 Date of Meeting: Submitted By: Prepared By: Ward(s) Involved: Date of Report: Report No.: Subject: Environmental Committee Colin Goodeve, Committee Administrator - ext 2278 All December 17, 2007 CRPS-07-151 ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION- COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM - 2007 RECIPIENTS RECOMMENDATION: That the 2007 Community Environmental Improvement Grant Program (CEIGP), to be funded from the Environmental Stewardship Capital Account, be awarded as follows: $3,000. to Community Renewable Energy Waterloo (CREW) - Power Saving Network; $3,000. to CREW - Conservation / Renewable Energy Website Development; $1,500. to St. Teresa Catholic School; and, That $1,000. of the 2007 CEIGP funds be prorated to assist with costs related to advertising the 2008 grant program; and further, That the remaining $1,500. of the 2007 CEIGP funds be prorated for distribution as part of the 2008 grant program. BACKGROUND: The purpose of the Community Environmental Improvement Grant Program (CEIGP) is to encourage residents to actively participate in environmental initiatives. To facilitate this program, $10,000. was budgeted to the Environmental Stewardship Capital Account in 2007, with a maximum grant allocation of $3,000. for anyone project. This year the Environmental Committee received 6 grant applications. REPORT: At the December 13, 2007 Environmental Committee meeting, the Committee considered 6 applications for the CEIGP, and are recommending that $7,500. be allocated to 3 of the applicants. The remaining 3 applicants received CEIGP funding last year and as these are intended to be one-time only grants, those applications were withdrawn from consideration. In addition, as a means of attracting more diverse applications in the future, the Committee agreed to have the $1 ,000. of the 2007 CEIGP funding used toward advertising the 2008 grants and the remaining $1 ,500. in 2007 funding prorated for distribution as part of the 2008 grants. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: $10,000. was budgeted in the Environmental Stewardship Capital Account for the 2007 Community Environmental Improvement Grant Program and is available for distribution.
