CRPS-08-017
Subject: DEDICATION OF LAND TO KITCHENER UTILITIES -
HURON ROAD/FISCHER HALLMAN RD
RECOMMENDATION:
That a parcel of land of 929 square meters (10,000 square feet) be allocated to Kitchener
Utilities from the City's land at the corner of Huron and Fischer Hallman Road for the purposes
of installing a gas regulator station.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
N/A
BACKGROUND:
N/A
REPORT:
Kitchener Utilities presently have three gas regulator stations at various locations in the City and
require to install a fourth station in the South West to accommodate growth. With the addition of
this fourth station, the station on Huron Road near Homer Watson Boulevard will be
decommissioned. These stations are equipped to reduce gas pressures from 200 p.s.i. to 40
p.s.i., which then allows the utilities to safely distribute the gas to its customers. (See attached
photos showing a typical regulator station)
Utilities staff (see attached map) have chosen the location. It is strategically located to serve the
needs in the South West portion of the City. The site is proposed to be 100 feet by 100 feet and
would comprise approximately 1/z of 1% of the total site. The location (refer to attached map) has
been selected with staff input from Planning, Utilities and Facilities Management. In addition,
there will be a minor encumbrance of lands along the rear of the existing dwellings where
Utilities would locate pipes to and from the new station and to Fischer Hallman Road. It is staff's
view that this allocation of land will have little effect on the overall functionality of the site for
future uses.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
This recommendation provides cost avoidances by eliminating both the need to procure more
lands in that vicinity, and the cost of extra piping to and from the gas regulator station and
Fischer Hallman Road.
COMMUNICATIONS:
N/A
CONCLUSION:
We seek Council concurrence to this allocation of land to Kitchener Utilities for the purpose of
installing agas regulator station.
