BACKGROUND: Street Vendors have been licensed to operate on city property for the past 18 years. The 2007 Street Vendors By-law expired on December 31, 2007. Therefore, a new by-law has been prepared for the 2008 season. REPORT: The Region of Waterloo Health Department recently advised staff that in August of 2007 the Ontario Food Premises Regulations had been amended to allow for a greater variety of food that is to be permitted on street vending carts. Therefore, the recommended changes to this by- law permit the products to be sold at a vending cart to be "any food item as approved by Region of Waterloo Public Health Unit. A 6% fee increase for the street cart vendors and popcorn and confections vendors is also being recommended. The increase was established to remain consistent with all other types of business licences whose fees were increased 6% in 2008.
