EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - DOWNTOWN
STREET CLEANING
RECOMMENDATION:
That, notwithstanding Council's resolution of April 21, 2008, an exemption to Chapter 450
(Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to permit the Community Services
Department, through an independent contractor, to undertake cleaning of the streets and
sidewalks in the Downtown Core between the hours of 1 0 PM and 6 AM on various dates
between May 11 and 17, 2008.
BACKGROUND:
Report CRPS-08-053 was considered at the Special Council meeting on April 21 st, and a
recommendation was adopted that provided for a noise exemption for downtown street cleaning
from May 4 to May 10, 2008.
REPORT:
Subsequent to the April 21 st meeting, Community Services staff indicated that the project is
being set back 1 week in duration. As such, it is necessary to adjust the dates for the noise
exemption by 1 week.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None identified at this time.
COMMUNICATIONS:
No Corporate Communications required.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, the By-law Enforcement Division does not
object to this request for an exemption.
