REPORT: The Community Services Department has received a grant application from the "Our World Festival of Music" organizers in the amount of $7,250 to assist with expenses for the June 2008 event. Our World Festival was developed in 2006 "to celebrate through music the cultural diversity of Kitchener". The festival launches the City of Kitchener's annual Tapestry Festival. The event, free of charge, "features a wide variety of world music, performed by musicians from Kitchener and Ontario, whose cultural origins and musical backgrounds reflect the many ethnic communities which make Kitchener home to the world". Further details regarding the event are provided in the attached grant application. The grant request was reviewed by the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) at their April 15, 2008 meeting, who passed the following motion: "The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee recommends that Our World Festival of Music receives a one-time only grant of $7,250 to enable expansion of the event. " Further details regarding this recommendation are noted in the attached ACAC resolution. Staff has reviewed the grant request and recommends that the grant not be approved since the organizers do not have formal, non profit status and do not have a board of directors or executive committee in place. Therefore, the request does not meet the grant criteria.
