MAY 26, 200$ CITY OF KITCHENER
A special meeting of City Council was held at 12:09 p.m. this date, chaired by Mayor C. Zehr with all
members present except Councillor B. Vrbanovic.
Notice of this special meeting had been previously given to all members of Council by the City Clerk
pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code.
Council considered Development and Technical Services Department report DTS-08-095 (J. Willmer /
M. May), dated May 21, 2008, concerning the City of Kitchener's response to a request from the
Reduce the Juice Foundation for endorsement of their 2008 project on climate change issues,
including use of the City's logo on promotional materials, and in-kind support for training and
information on existing City-related environmental programs.
Moved by Councillor G. Lorentz
Seconded by Councillor K. Galloway
"That the City of Kitchener support the 2008 initiatives of Reduce fhe Juice; and,
That the City of Kitchener allow the use of its corporate logo on promotion materials for the
Reduce fhe Juice initiative provided it is given a proof of the material in advance of publication
to ensure its corporate logo standards are followed; and further,
That in-kind support be provided in the form of information on related City of Kitchener projects
as outlined in Development and Technical Services Department report DTS-08-095."
Carried.
Council considered Financial Services Department report FIN-08-078 (D. Chapman), dated May 22,
2008, concerning an application for cancellation, refund, reduction or levy of taxes relating to 6
Executive Place, Kitchener.
Mayor C. Zehr advised that staff has requested further deferral of this item to the June 23, 2008
Council meeting to allow time to fully investigate the situation with respect to the application submitted
for exempt status for taxes. Mr. D. Chapman, General Manager of Financial Services, advised that
the application submitted in this matter has not had the desired effect for the applicant and staff wish
to investigate if there are other ways to process the application.

Seconded by Councillor G. Lorentz
"That the recommendation contained in Financial Services Department report FIN-08-078 (D.
Chapman), regarding an application submitted under Section 357 of the Municipal Act, as
amended, be deferred to the June 23, 2008 Council meeting."

"That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held this date to consider alitigation /potential
litigation matter and a land acquisition /disposition matter both of which are also subject to
solicitor-client privilege and a matter subject to solicitor-client privilege."

Seconded by Councillor G. Lorentz
"That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce a by-law to confirm all actions and
proceedings of the Council and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be
finally passed and numbered 2008-97 by the Clerk."
Carried.
