APPEAL - HOT DOG CART LOCATION -730 OTTAWA
STREET SOUTH
RECOMMENDATION:
Council's direction is requested.
BACKGROUND:
Chapter 586 (Refreshment Vehicles) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code requires a 200
metre distance separation between a Refreshment Vehicle and a Place of Refreshment and a
400 metre distance separation between two Refreshment Vehicles. This requirement is for both
new and renewal applications.
REPORT:
Attached is a letter from Spiridon Carayannis requesting an appeal of the Manager of
Licensing's decision not to issue a licence for the operation of a hot dog cart at 730 Ottawa
Street South. Mr. Carayannis wishes to locate a hot dog cart at 730 Ottawa Street South
(Rona).
This location was granted an exemption by Council in 2004 and a hot dog cart operated at this
location in 2004 and 2006.
There are currently 9 licensed Places of Refreshment within the distance separation. They
have been notified of this request.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
COMMUNICATIONS:
The Places of Refreshment that are within the distance separation have been notified of this
request.
