REQUEST TO HOLD OUTDOOR MARKET - CENTREVILLE
CHICOPEE COMMUNITY CENTRE -141 MORGAN
AVENUE - FRIDAYS - JUNE 27-SEPTEMBER 26,2008
RECOMMENDATION:
That Opportunities Waterloo Region be granted permission to hold an outdoor market at
Centreville Chicopee Community Centre, 141 Morgan Avenue each Friday from June 27 to
September 26, 2008 provided the required licence is obtained.
BACKGROUND:
Council Policy requires Council's approval prior to a licence being issued to allow sales of food
and merchandise on City property.
REPORT:
Attached is a request from Katherine Pigott, Manager, Healthy Communities and Policy, Region
of Waterloo Public Health, requesting permission to operate an outdoor market selling locally
grown fruits and vegetables at the Centreville Chicopee Community Centre, 141 Morgan
Avenue. This market will be held each Friday from June 27 to September 26, 2008.
There are currently two other outdoor markets operating in Kitchener. One is located at St.
Mary's Hospital and the other is located at the Mill Courtland Community Centre. The goal of
these markets is to increase access to fresh local produce, increase consumption of fresh
produce, support the local agricultural economy and increase social connections in the
neighbourhoods.
Opportunities Waterloo Region will assume responsibility for the actual operation of the market.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
