Subject: ON-STREET PARKING - WESTVIEW CRESCENT
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That parking be prohibited at anytime on the north /west side (inner curve near 48
Westview Crescent) of Westview Crescent from a point 108 metres south of Westview Court
to a point 25 metres south /west thereof.
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Kitchener has received a request from a resident of Westview Crescent regarding
parking on Westview Crescent. According to the constituent, vehicles regularly park along the
inner curve portion of the roadway, thereby narrowing the effective roadway width, which in turn,
creates a traffic and pedestrian safety concern.
At the present time, on-street parking is prohibited during the T-ball season from May 1 to June 30
on the south/east side (odd house numbers) of Westview Crescent from Rolling Meadows Drive
to Westheights Drive. Parking is permitted on the north/west side (even house numbers) of
Westview Crescent for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours, as outlined in the City
of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138.
REPORT:
The section of Westview Crescent under review is a local roadway that runs from Rolling
Meadows Drive to Westheights Drive.
Accordingly, on July 16, 2008, a letter was delivered to the residences directly abutting this
section of Westview Crescent regarding a proposal to prohibit parking at anytime on the inner
curve near 48 Westview Crescent). The results are as follows:
In favour of prohibiting parking on the north /west side of Westview Crescent 3 (60%)
In favour of leaving the current regulation as is 2 (40%)
TOTAL 5 (out of 16 - 31 % responded)
Based on the results of the survey, Transportation Planning is recommending that parking be
prohibited at anytime on the inner curve of Westview Crescent (near 48 Westview Crescent)
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for signage, including installation, for the roadway is $750 and will be
taken from the existing sign maintenance budget.
