HomeMy WebLinkAboutCompass - 2008-04-02 COMPASS KITCHENER COMMITTEE MINUTES April 2, 2008 CITY OF KITCHENER The Compass Kitchener Committee met on this date, commencing at 4:00 p.m. Present: Don Bourgeois, Kim Knowles, Norm Damaren, Sarah Marsh, Jasminka Klacar, Theron Kramer, Susan St. John, Susan St. John, Pat Doherty, Mike Harris Staff: Shelley Adams, Jenn Walter, Corina Tasker, Loretta Alonzo, Deb Campbell, Linda Korabo Regrets: Roxana Stanciu, Laura Lee Dam (on leave) The first 30 minutes of the meeting was set aside for Deb Campbell and Linda Korabo to complete the Advisory Committee Review that began at the March meeting. Compass Kitchener staff was not involved in this portion of the meeting. Report Card Grading ? Corina thanked all committee members who submitted their responses. Early this week a summary was sent for review and discussion, in addition the committee will discuss if the Compass th Kitcheners Report will grade the 7 theme of Effective and Efficient Government, and how/where to publish the results. ? It was suggested that perhaps in the future short presentations can be provided on each of the key focus areas so that members of Compass Kitchener are up to date when actually grading. Another option would be to add a column to indicate where staff are in each particular item or either percentage or perspective/narrative if they have met their own objective. ? Discussion took place surrounding the scale to use when results are publicised with debate about use of a 3, 5 or 10 point scale. Ultimately the committee agreed to use the 5 point scale. ? The committee discussed each of the seven themes in great detail, each member providing input on and motive for the grade given. Members were given the opportunity to amend their grading at the end of the meeting to reflect any changes in their view in light of the conversation. The Indicators Working Group was then asked to take away the results and bring to the next meeting, a draft of the final text to be publicized. th ? In regards to the grading of the 7 theme of Effective and Efficient Government, the committee decided to conclude the report with a paragraph indicating that the city needs to have an effective and efficient government in order to have a Healthy Community. Included in this paragraph will be th information that falls under this 7 theme; however the committee will not provide a grade as the indicators were not developed by the committee. 1. Methods of Publication ? Several different methods of publication were discussed at the last meeting. ? Written report and presentation to Council ? Spread in Your Kitchener ? Printed brochures to provide to public, and have available at city facilities. This option was discussed and decided against. ? The Indicators Working Group to draft the final text to be publicized prior to next meeting. ? The committee will confirm the final ratings and have script 80-90% complete at May meeting.
