HomeMy WebLinkAboutCompass - 2008-06-02 COMPASS KITCHENER COMMITTEE MINUTES June 4, 2008 CITY OF KITCHENER The Compass Kitchener Committee met on this date, commencing at 4:20 p.m. Present: Don Bourgeois, Kim Knowles, Norm Damaren, Sarah Marsh, Jasminka Klacar, Susan St. John Staff: Shelley Adams, Jenn Walter, Abbie Grafstein, Edwina Weiss Regrets: Roxana Stanciu, Theron Kramer, Pat Doherty, Mike Harris, Laura Lee Dam (on leave) Shelley welcomed all members to the meeting. Norm kindly chaired the meeting until Don’s arrival. 1. General Business st ? Kitchener Planning Council’s 41 Annual General Meeting – information to be forwarded to committee. 2. Responses to Compass Kitchener Letter to MPs and MPPs ? Shelley reviewed responses received from both Elizabeth Witmer and John Milloy. Both letters are attached for review. The committee was interested to find out if the details in John Milloy’s letter were considered in the presentation received from Councillor Berry Vrbanovic earlier in the year. After inquiring, it was determined that… ? A question was$ mentioned in beginning of john milloys, was that considered in the prez from Barry 3. Community Engagement Strategy ? Jasminka and Abbie reviewed the draft presentation as planned for Council on June 23 (attached, along with report). Jasminka began with the introduction and some background information, as well as the Access Equity and Inclusion slide, while Abbie reviewed the Draft Policy, Research, and Next Steps slides. ? Discussion took place surrounding entrust, and other examples that could be used in addition to Committee of Adjustment. Other examples identified include the Citizens Report, the Center in the Square, Referendum on the Ballot, and potentially the Registry Theatre. Participatory Budging, which the Compass Kitchener committee received a comprehensive presentation on in June 2007, is also an example of entrust. ? Citizens Report Card ? Based on report content, Kim and Sarah put together a PowerPoint presentation for council June 9, 2008. June 4, 2008 CITY OF KITCHENER - 2 - ? Through discussion, it was decided that the fourth slide titled ‘Five-star Grading System’ would be removed, and instead, additional clarification added to slide third slide clarifying that the results are for 2007 only, additional work has taken place and it will be recognized in 2008. ? Additionally, other pieces were discussed and clarified for the final version of the presentation. ? It was verified that the Activa Sportplex is the Hanson Ave Twin Pads. 5. Advisory Review Committee ? The Advisory Review will be discussed at the July meeting. ? Shelley will e-mail the information by Monday June 16th for the committee to review and provide feedback. Compass Kitchener approved, in principle, subject to comments on the final draft to be circulated. 6. New Youth Representative ? Roxy has completed her one year placement with Conestoga Students Inc. and a new president has been chosen. Sheena Sonser is the new president, and with council’s approval later this summer, she will be the new youth representative. 7. Other ? Out of the discussion regarding Advisory Committees, the committee further discussed attendance at our own meetings.
