Date of Meeting: October 27, 2008
Submitted By: Dianne Gilchrist, Secretary -Treasurer, Committee of

Prepared By: Dianne Gilchrist
Ward(s) Involved: Ward 3
Date of Report: October 22, 2008
Report No.: CRPS-08-185
Subject: Sign Variance Application SG 2008-007 - 100 Sportsworld
Drive
RECOMMENDATION:
That the recommendation of the Committee of Adjustment for Submission No. SG 2008-007 -
100 Sportsworld Drive - be referred to the Committee of Adjustment meeting of
November 18, 2008, and a new Notice of Hearing for this application be published prior
to the November 18t" meeting.
REPORT:
On October 21, 2008, the Committee of Adjustment considered a Sign Variance
Application for 100 Sportsworld Drive, wherein the applicant, GPM Managed
Investments Inc., applied to erect 2 ground supported signs at 100 Sportsworld Drive,
both to have a height of 9m (29.52') rather than the permitted 7.5m (24.6'). The
Committee of Adjustment's recommendation is included as part of item B6 in the
Committee of the Whole agenda for the meeting of October 27, 2008.
Subsequent to the October 21, 2008 Committee of Adjustment meeting, staff became
aware that the address provided by the applicant on the application form was incorrect,
and in fact one of the signs is to be erected at 100 Sportsworld Drive and the second
sign is to be erected at 4326 King Street East. A Notice of Hearing, published in The
Record on October 3, 2008, advised the public that both signs are to be located at 100
Sportsworld Drive.
The developer of Sportsworld Crossing has also applied to the Committee of
Adjustment for a variance to erect 2 fascia signs on the property at 4326 King Street
East, both to cover 100% of the walls on which they will be located, rather than the
permitted 30%. The Committee of Adjustment has yet to make a decision on this
application because of missing information. Regarding this Sign Variance Application,
the Pine Grove Community Association has expressed some concern, and has
requested that conditions be imposed by the Committee of Adjustment if the application
is approved.
Since the public was misinformed about the location for the two ground supported signs,
both of which were advertised to be located at 100 Sportworld Drive, it is being
recommend that the decision for SG 2008-007 be referred back to the Committee of
Adjustment for their meeting of November 18, 2008, and both the public and the
Committee be provided with the correct information.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The applicant's agent has been provided with a copy of this report.
