HomeMy WebLinkAboutExpression of Interest - E06-017 - Consultant - Sports Tourism StrategyDate: March 29th, 2006 To: Mayor Carl Zehr and Members of Council Subject: E06-017 -Consultant Services -Sport Tourism Strategy RECOMMENDATION That Expression of Interest E06-017, Consultant Services, Sport Tourism Strategy be awarded to Cameron Hawkins & Associates Inc., Toronto, Ontario at their fee of $79,608.00, including G.S.T., based on a satisfactory contract being negotiated. REPORT In accordance with Chapter 170 of the Municipal Code pertaining to the Selection of Professional Services/Consultants, a Consultant's Review Committee was established consisting of M. Hildebrand, Interim Director of Community Programs and Services & Athletics, K. Woodcock, Special Projects Officer, C. Allen, Marketing & Communications Associate, J. Moore, J. Thompson, A. Davidson, Community Members associated with sporting and local hospitality industry and L. Gordon, Director of Purchasing. Expressions of interest were requested from three potential bidders and advertised, on the City of Kitchener Home Page and on the intereet thorough the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System relative to this project. Documents were picked up by seven (7) interested parties. By the closing date of Friday February 3~d, 2006, four (4) responses had been received. The Review Committee met on Wednesday February 22nd, 2006 to review the submissions. A shortlist of three (3) consultants was selected for further interviews. The Review Committee met on Friday March 24h', 2006 to interview the shortlisted candidates. The Committee elected to award the project to Cameron Hawkins & Associates, Toronto. The intent of the study is to undertake public and agency consultation, identify the benefits of alternative sport tourism strategies and the associated investment, and make recommendations outlining a sport tourism strategy which substantiates the directions the City of Kitchener wishes to follow over multiple levels including regional, provincial, national and international events. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS Funding will be provided from index 631825 -Sport Tourism -General Index - 631825 $95,045.25 E06-017 $79,608.00 Less G.S.T. Rebate ($ 5,208.00) $74,400.00 $74,400.00 BALANCE $20,645.25 * The balance will be used for costs associated with bid preparations at the KMAC and other costs associated with sport tourism in the community.
