HomeMy WebLinkAboutTender - T06-001 - Concrete Sidewalk & Curb Construction & RepairsDate: February 20th, 2006 To: Mayor Carl Zehr & Members of Council Subject: T06-001 -Concrete Sidewalk & Curb Construction and Repairs RECOMMENDATION That tender T06-001, Concrete Sidewalk & Curb Construction and Repairs, be awarded to 410754 Ontario Limited, o/a Sousa Concrete, Branchton, Ontario at their corrected tendered price of $574,283.66, including contingencies of $23,370. and G.S.T., and further that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute an agreement satisfactory to the City Solicitor. REPORT Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, The Daily Commercial News, the City of Kitchener's web site and on the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System. Eleven (11) potential bidders picked up tender documents, and by the closing date of Thursday February 9th, 2006, five (5) tenders had been received. The tenders were reviewed by E. Saunderson, Design & Construction Project Manager, and R. Shames, Director of Engineering Services, who concur with the above recommendation. The low tender submitted by 410754 Ontario Limited, o/a Sousa Concrete, contained a minor mathematical error which has been corrected. Sousa Concrete successfully completed the 2005 Concrete Sidewalk & Curb Construction and Repair contract and has shown proven ability in this respect. The following tenders were received: TENDERED ADJUSTED PRICE PRICE 410754 Ontario Limited, o/a Sousa Concrete Branchton $573,799.80 574,283.66 United Contracting London $602,251.61 Four Seasons Site Development Mississauga $648,106.35 GJR Construction Kitchener $714,141.11 Trisan Construction Schomberg $991,955.56 The City of Kitchener, Engineering Infrastructure staff developed a Sidewalk Maintenance Policy (DTS-03-079) where sidewalk inventory is managed in order to assess, prioritize and plan maintenance and replacement initiatives. The intent of this policy is to balance fiscal responsibility with the provision of public safety and efficient sidewalk maintenance. In accordance with this policy, the City of Kitchener annual contract T06-001, Concrete Sidewalk & Curb Construction and Repair, implements the maintenance and replacement portion of this process. Rebate ($ 37,569.96) TOTAL $536,713.70 $536,713.70 BALANCE $ 48,566.86 * The balance represents the funding source for staff salaries, detours and material testing and will be used for additional project costs beyond the scope of work summarized within the contract, and have been taken into consideration throughout the tendering process..
