Subject: T06 -042 — Hazardous Material Abatement — Forsyth Building
RECOMMENDATION
That tender T06 -042, Hazardous Material Abatement — Forsyth Building, be awarded to Reitzel
Bros. Asbestos Removal LTD., Breslau at their tendered price of $143,915., including G.S.T.
REPORT
Tenders were requested from five (5) potential bidders, advertised publicly in The Record, on the
City of Kitchener web site and the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information
System. By the closing date of Thursday April 13th, 2006, two (2) tenders had been received.
The tenders were reviewed by L. Proulx, Director of Facilities Management who concurs with
the above recommendation.
The following tenders were received:
Reitzel Bros. Asbestos Removal LTD. Breslau, ON $143.915.00
Tri -Phase Environmental Inc. Mississauga, ON $319,769.50
In order to proceed with the demolition of the remaining Forsyth buildings the City has tendered
the abatement of all hazardous materials. This will allow the demolition contractors to bid on a
clean site avoiding extras to the contract for hazardous materials found during demolition.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
Forsyth demolition costs projected at $1,015,000, funded from EDIF. This projection includes
$450,000 for the demolition of the remaining two buildings, as previously reported to Council
(report CRPS -06 -043, March 20). Of this $450,000, $160,000 has been allowed for the removal
of hazardous materials. No further hazardous material abatement costs are anticipated beyond the
current tender.
