Box 1118 Kitchener, ON N2G 4G7 Date: August 21, 2008 To: Members of Heritage Kitchener From: Michelle Wade, Heritage Planner cc: Subject: Procedure for the Review of Property Nominations to the Municipal Heritage Register In the fall of 2006, Council approved a process for listing privately owned non-designated property of cultural heritage value or interest to the Municipal Heritage Register. The four step listing process involves: evaluation by a recorder; short listing by a subcommittee; review of short listed properties by Heritage Kitchener; and, a formal decision by City Council as to whether or not to list non-designated property of cultural heritage value or interest on the Municipal Heritage Register. In the next few months, Heritage Planning staff will begin to schedule short listed properties for review at Heritage Kitchener meetings. As these properties have already been evaluated by a recorder and short listed by a subcommittee, a formal presentation will not be made by Heritage Planning staff at the Heritage Kitchener meeting. Rather the completed Cultural Heritage Resource Evaluation Form and the draft Statement of Significance, including photographs will be circulated to Heritage Kitchener with each agenda package. Please review this information in advance of the meeting. At the Heritage Kitchener meeting, the Chair will announce the item and ask if any Committee members have any questions. In the absence of questions, the owner will be invited to speak as a delegation. The Chair will request that a motion be made on the recommendation as presented in the Staff Report, which details the recorder and subcommittee evaluation and recommendation as well as the draft Statement of Significance. The Committee recommendation will be forwarded to Council for final consideration. At the Heritage Kitchener meeting of September 2nd, the Committee will be introduced to this process. Please find attached a Staff Report, Statements of Significance, Photographs, and completed Cultural Heritage Resource Evaluation Forms for 7 Fischer Court and 6 Gordon Avenue. Please review this information in advance of the meeting. If you have any comments, questions or concerns regarding the process or properties, please don't hesitate to contact me in advance of the meeting.
