EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Children's Museum has requested that the City provide certain security services for the duration of "The Art of Andy Warhol" exhibit. The Warhol exhibition is an important one for the Children's Museum and they expect it to be a major draw to the museum. The exhibit is currently scheduled to run from January 10 to April 19, 2008 with the possibility for an extension. Given the value of the collection, the Children's Museum has committed to certain heightened security measures. In order to meet these security requirements, the Children's Museum has requested the City's assistance. 014 Facilities Management staff have met with the Children's Museum's representative and discussed the security requirements. As this is a one-time event that is of particular importance to the Children's Museum, security staff is able to provide some assistance by providing increased patrols and checks of the building exterior and periodic after-hours checks of closed circuit television cameras at the location. This would be in addition to the basic exterior security services already provided by the City as the building owner at that location. An agreement will be drafted to protect the City's interests from a liability standpoint. The agreement will include insurance and indemnity provisions to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor and to a representative of the Waterloo Region Municipalities Insurance Pool. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The assistance suggested in this report can be offered with existing resources. A copy of this report has been provided to a representative of the Children's Museum. Facilities Management staff is willing to provide the security support set out in this report as staff recognize the importance of this exhibition to the museum and downtown vibrancy.
