Subject: DOWNTOWN ADVISORY COMMITTEE -
RECOMMENDATION IN SUPPORT OF THE KING STREET
MASTERPLAN
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Downtown Advisory Committee strongly support Option 4 be approved with an
amendment that the high quality treatments be extended to also include the block between
College Street and Water Street; and,
That Council continue to allocate all of the funding currently committed to the
project, approximately $5.6 million, over and above the funding received from the Province of
Ontario, $3.2 million through the MIII application, for a total allocation of $8.8 million.
REPORT:
On June 12, 2008, at their regular meeting, The Downtown Advisory Committee was given an
overview of the status of the King Street Master Plan, and the options to be presented on June
16, 2008.
The Committee engaged in discussion in which committee members expressed their strong
support for Option 4. However, they recommended Option 4 be amended so that high quality
treatments be extended to Water Street.
The Committee also recommends that Council allocate all of the $5.6M that currently has been
allocated by Kitchener City Council in addition to the $3.2M Provincial funding.
