Development & Technical Services Report To: Council Strategy Session Date of Meeting: January 26, 2009 Submitted By: Mike Seiling, Director of Building Prepared By: Mike Seiling, Director of Building (519.741.2669} Ward(s) Involved: ALL Date of Report: January 21, 2009 Report No.: DTS-09-021 Subject: BUILDING DIVISION UPDATE RECOMMENDATION: This report is for INFORMATION purposes only, REPORT: The Building Division would like to take this opportunity to update and inform Council on three separate items; construction after building permit issuance, a customer service initiative and the 2008 building permit statistics. The presentation will include discussion on the following topics; • Review the legislated authority for construction in Ontario, • Watch a part clip from the CBC produced Marketplace show, • Review a successful method of customer service, "Tuesday Night Express Service" for residential home owners projects such as; decks, sheds and swimming pools, • Review the 2008 building permit statistics; 2,960 permits issued including 1,066 new residential units, a total construction value of $339.407,533 and permit revenue of $3,652,508 The Building Division is responsible for enforcing the legislated requirements contained in the Building Code Act and the Building Code so that buildings meet a minimum standard relating to fire, life and health safety systems. Building staff continues to demonstrate leadership and their commitment in providing a high level of customer service, "Tuesday Night Express Service" for residential type projects is one example.
