Subject: Victoria Park Lake Environmental Assessment -Update
The City is overseeing a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify a preferred option(s)
to address the water quality in Victoria Park Lake. Heritage Planning staff have been appointed
to the Steering Committee to address cultural heritage interests. Staff provided Heritage
Kitchener with information regarding the EA and possible alternative solutions in October 2008.
The consulting team has now prepared a draft report, and a recommended solution for Victoria
Park Lake has been identified. The recommended lake solution would result in the
reconfiguration of the lake, with shoreline reconfiguration and modification to lake features
generally confined to the upper lake area, where impact to the cultural heritage landscape
attributes of the Park is minimized.
Enclosed is an information brief providing additional detail on the recommended solution and
upper lake design options. Staff will speak to this issue at the April 7t", 2009 meeting of the
Committee. An electronic copy of this and other information regarding the Victoria Park Lake
EA is available on the City's website at htt ://www.kitchener.ca/ arks.
