Vrbanovic, Chair and Members of the Finance and Corporate Services Committee DATE OF MEETING: April 20, 2009 SUBMITTED BY: R. Gosse, Director of Legislated Services/City Clerk PREPARED BY: Patricia Harris, Manager of Licensing WARD(S) INVOLVED: DATE OF REPORT: April 14, 2009 REPORT NO.: CRPS-09-045 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR THE SALE OF FOOD AND SOUVENIRS AT ALL TOURNAMENTS ON CITY SPORTS FIELDS RECOMMENDATION: That approval be granted to sports organizations that are holding tournaments, during the months May through November, 2009 and have received Field Rental Permits/Contracts from Community Services at the sports fields listed on Schedule ‘A’ attached to Corporate Services Department Report CRPS-09-045; to run a concession which may include the sale of hamburgers, hot dogs, pop, water, packaged foods, etc. as well as souvenirs, provided the necessary licence, including Health and Fire approvals is obtained. BACKGROUND: Council Policy requires Council’s approval prior to a licence being issued to allow sales to take place on City property. Traditionally, each sports organization has been required to obtain Council approval each time that they held a tournament at City sports fields and wished to sell food or souvenirs. In 2008 Council passed one resolution that covered the entire summer and fall sports tournament season. REPORT: Many sports organizations wish to raise money through operation of a concession stand to cover tournament expenses. In 2008 in order to simplify the process, one resolution of Council was passed to cover the entire summer and fall sports tournament season. Staff found that this process worked much more efficiently and allowed the organizations involved to obtain their licences in a more timely fashion ensuring compliance with the Municipal Code.
